Who's Looking at this Website?

Okay, so I don't know how to analyze data. I don't even know how  to look at data before not analyzing it.I tend to get stuck on useless metaphysical questions like: Who from Singapore is looking at this website?

One feature that provides hours of fun and entertainment is the projected monthly number of unique (come on, you're all unique) visitors and the number of pages viewed. For example in May there were 24 unique oddballs that looked at the site and they viewed 260 pages. The projection for June, based on visits so far is 67 unique visitors and--get this--1,182 pages viewed. Wow. This is exciting. If only I knew what a 'page' is. Anyway, I've been fooled by these projections in the past. Twice I handed in my notice on my day-job only to find out that the projection was made by Litlle Miss Mary Sunshine and that, furthermore, the visitors in June-so-far, have all donned saffron robes, shaved their heads and are living in the mountains of Tibet.

That's what a website like this can do to a person. Perhaps it is I who should robe up and get onto a mountain.
But where, really are these folks, past visitors, located. 51% in the United States. Okay. But the rest live in 'Other'. These must be the newly ordained monks with access to the internet.

Most intriguing is that the person from someplace called Medway, MA who had been visiting my site 108 times a day, has dropped back to a mere 40 or 50 visits a day. I take great pride in how long it took my stuff to get old for this person. I guess not that old, though.

A couple of times a year I try to figure out what all of this means. I've got a better chance at coming up with The Meaning of Life.

I guess my goals for the next period are clear. Come up with enough new stuff to keep the person from Medway interested.

But really, thanks to all of you who have visited my website.

Medway is likely not a person but a "spider" or "bot" (a good thing really). But I do visit your site from time to time and I'm a person (well, most days).

:-)

ha ha, too funny! I've had similar thoughts. I have been told however that unique takes on a different meaning in webstats in that it means HUMAN and not a computer or robot tooling around our websites. So you are right, we are all unique (I hope!).
