Nature Abhors a Vacuum

And an abominable still life too. The worst thing about this painting is that I let two peaches go past their prime.. this would be okay if the painting turned out nice.

To start with, the foamboard which I painted it on will allow only so many techniques. Actually, only one. The wonderful folks at my art supply store assured me that using foamboard would be a great way to get back into acrylics. This reason for this, I have since intuited, is that the foamboard is non-archival and will disintegrate within 10 minutes of painting on it. No wonder I heard the staff at the art store laughing their heads off in the background.

But no, seriously, they love me a lot. And not just for the thousands of dollars I spend there every year. But that could be most of it.

I started something on another piece of foamboard which I have not posted. Not because I am ashamed of the piece (which I am) but because it's impossible to make head or tail of it. It doesn't even cut it as an abstract.

But no quitter I. With much anticipation I gaily threw up another piece of the foamboard on my easel and started in on the soon-to-become-infamous "Bowl of Fruit". Hey,I said to myself, this is interesting. It  remained interesting until I tried to throw a gray shadow under the fruit bowl. The aforementioned gray shadow is not to be seen in the picture posted here. Why not? Oh,God, don't even ask. I whited it out and started throwing paint all over the damned thing.

I refuse to give up. Why? because i am incredibly stupid. And I like it that way. Still working on the Burmese monks.

Two Burmese Monks with Umbrellas

Today I decided to make a sketch of the monks. What I posted last was the wrong size for the painting. Too skinny.
So I cut out the drawing in order to mark some of the places on the canvas where things begin and end. It's not perfect, but I hope to get more life into  it when I begin painting.
